BMW M8 Coupé in Prague — gran turismo from Masons

BMW M8 Coupé from the Masons fleet: long trips, high speed and a premium cabin — when gran turismo makes more sense than a sharper M4.

Gran turismo, not a toy

The M8 Coupé is gran turismo: two people to the Alps, an evening arrival, representation. More luxury and mass than an M4, less of a toy. At Masons, guests take it who want to arrive far and still have M, not only a sharp corner outside town. Two people, weekend luggage, motorway, a hotel. That is a sentence the M8 understands. Five people and skis it no longer does. For that the fleet has another shape. Shape is the first decision, not the last. If your weekend is two names on a reservation and a long ribbon of road, this coupé is already arguing for itself before you start the engine.

Against the M4 the M8 is about presence, interior and distance. Against the M5 it is about a coupé, and about rear seats that are more of an emergency. Against the R8 it is about usefulness on an ordinary stage. If you want a supercar gesture, the R8 does it better. If you want to arrive and step out in good order, the M8 makes sense. It is not a car you should take only because it is wide in a photograph. Take it because the stage is long. Long is the word that separates a grand tourer from a Saturday afternoon. If your stage is short, the fleet has lighter joys that will not make you manage width for a single bridge.

It is not the first choice for pure B-roads in the Brdy if you are after lightness. You feel the mass. Nor is it the easiest car into an underground garage in the centre. It is the choice when the weekend starts in Prague and ends far away, or the other way round. Between rentals Masons deals with making gran turismo remain gran turismo after the previous guest: wheels, cabin, glass. You deal with whether you are travelling as two and whether you want a coupé, not a sedan. A coupé for distance makes sense when you are two and you know the stage is a weekend, not five corners outside town. Five corners will not use this interior. A hotel arrival will.

Width in the lanes, calm out of town

In narrow lanes you notice the body; out of town it is among the most pleasant Ms in the fleet. Prague will not reward the M8 if you push it where a smaller car belongs. It will reward it with the embankment, a bridge, a motorway feeder. Evening lights and a quiet cabin. A morning roll-out before the peak begins. That is a rhythm a coupé of this size can carry. Sport mode in a pedestrian zone nobody can carry. Carry is the verb for this car in Prague. Force is the verb that scuffs mirrors. Choose the first, and the second never has to appear in a return conversation.

Parking is a chapter on its own. A low coupé, wide mirrors, a long bonnet. A guarded garage with a mild ramp, a hotel stand, a place you can walk back to. Not a yard you reverse into between bins. If you plan dinner in the centre, count on a garage and a walk. The M8 should be at rest in the evening, you at the table. The deposit is not admission to risky parking. Risky parking is how a grand tourer becomes a small, expensive local story. A walk is how it remains the car you wanted when you booked the hotel with parking in the first place.

Take rates, deposit and kilometres from the car card. The M8 tempts the motorway because it belongs there. Count the stage including the return to Prague. Do not leave fuel on the light at night on the magistrála. A blog will not promise a number. The car card will. Masons will prepare the car. Do not let the first contact with Prague be a descent where the splitter collects the ramp. Width in a lane is not excused by the interior; parking is part of choosing the car. Choosing the car includes choosing where it will sleep. If you cannot name that place, you are not finished choosing.

Distance, the Alps, the spa towns

A half day at Karlštejn or the Brdy the M8 will carry, but its strong story is longer. Krumlov, the spa towns, an Alpine weekend as another piece in the Magazine describes it. Two people, lodging reserved with parking, the highest pass in the morning. The M8 is a car that makes sense in the Alps because it can do distance and representation after arrival. It is not the sharpest tool on a hairpin. It is a tool for the whole weekend. Whole is the word. A hairpin is an hour. A weekend is how you still feel on Sunday, which is the test a grand tourer was invented to pass.

On the motorway the M8 is in its element. Quiet, power, certainty. Swap even if you are only two — fatigue in a coupé is different from a limousine, but it is still there. At the destination, slow town again. Leave historic lanes on foot. Leave the car where you will not watch it with your eyes through the whole dinner. That is the difference between gran turismo and an exhibition. An exhibition needs an audience. Gran turismo needs a garage and a table, in that order, so the audience can be the person sitting across from you instead of a street that did not ask to be a showroom.

Plan the return to Prague with margin. Sunday, the D1, handover. The M8 can shorten time on the motorway; it should not shorten your margin for fuel and a calm handover. The state of the car at return should match collection. If something knocks or lights on the way, write. Between rentals we catch more when we know in time. Gran turismo ends with a quiet handover, not a sprint on the D1 on Sunday evening. A sprint on Sunday is how a long car becomes a short temper. Keep the temper for Monday. Keep the car for the window you actually agreed.

A coupé you book on a date, not on a last-minute mood

Book in the Masons fleet, or via Contact. Delivery across Prague is possible by arrangement. The M8 is not a car of which the fleet has an endless number. In season the dates fill. Deposit and kilometres on the card. The review is about use. If you want sharper and smaller, there is the M4 or the M2. If you want four doors and distance, the M5. The M8 sits between: a coupé for far. Far needs a date more than it needs a mood. Mood can arrive on Friday. The coupé may already have left with someone who booked on Monday, which is the more boring and more effective kind of desire.

Tell us whether you are doing the Alps, the spa towns, or an evening in Prague. An evening in Prague the M8 can do, but it is an expensive way to cross a bridge if you do not want exactly this shape and this interior. For a purely urban night the fleet has other cars too. For distance the M8 is one of the best answers Masons has. Prep between rentals is quiet and the same. The choice is yours. If you only want a bridge and dinner, the fleet has smaller cars the city punishes less. Punishment is width you did not need. Pleasure is width you did, on a road that can take it.

You will see the date and the rates on BMW M8 Competition Coupé in the fleet. The numbers belong there. Here belongs the fact that the M8 is gran turismo from Prague, not a toy for one afternoon, unless you want exactly this coupé and exactly this distance. Two people, parking with a mild ramp, and a return with margin — that is a weekend a coupé of this size can carry. Carry is still the verb. If your weekend cannot say those three things out loud, pick another shape, and let this one wait for the trip that can.
